Dancing Fae asked:
I don’t smoke very often, maybe once a month if that. I smoke socially, usually hookah or pot. Cigs are gross.
Here are my issues:
1. Pot doesn’t get me high, or doesn’t seem that way to me. No other drugs have ever seemed to get me high either, saving caffeine. I see pretty colors and find things inexplicably funny more often when I’m NOT smoking. Why?
2. I love blowing smoke rings, but sometimes I go too far and smoke too much. I promptly feel sick to my stomach, meaning I can’t even sleep it off. Anyone have a quick remedy?
3. In the mornings after I smoke, no matter what it is, no matter how much, I can’t get out of bed. It isn’t that I have a headache, I don’t feel hungover, I just feel like emotional crap. I can’t see the point in living, and that’s a frightening thing for someone who has multiple suicide attempts under her belt. Again, why? And do other people get like this?

I already know the long-term solution to this. Stop Smoking. What I’m looking for is answers for Why, and remedies for Right Now.

If you have a history of suicide attempts, pot is very bad choice. How to feel better about yourself? A good counselor can help, or a good friend. Try to find something that makes you happy, and get good at it. I recently took up painting, and found that my pictures are all very peaceful. Not a cloud in sight. No matter that I cannot paint a good cloud, I am happy with cloudless pictures. They make me feel relaxed, and I am proud of my achievement. My daughter took up knitting recently, and she is proud of doing full garments, have a sense of completing a project. Find something that is interesting for you, and you can get yourself “lost” in the process.
Your body is trying to tell you something.
1. Dunno. Why would you bother smoking pot if it didn’t make you high? Seems a waste of time.
2. That’s nicotine poisoning. There is no remedy, not that you would want to mess around with, anyway.
3. You’ve overdosed on a powerful stimulant (and antidepressant), and you’re crashing afterwards. The same thing can happen with coke, meth, and other stimulants. The obvious solution, again, is not to smoke, or to smoke less, or, if you insist on smoking, to use a different form like cigarettes which give you a lower dose of nicotine throughout the day, and better allow you to regulate nicotine intake.
